Tijuana Gringo

Thursday/Jueves, 15 February 2001.

What a bust. Maria and I went out walking last night to go celebrate Valentine's Night. Day of Love and Friendship -- Dia de Amor y Amistad. I said, "Oh, let's go to the new Mundo Divertido... I want to go drive the little cars around the track."

Well, after an hour wandering around the busses and taxis we finally got there and found there's not any rides and the video games aren't even open on weeknights. Yeesh. It's nothing but a shopping mall full of EMPTY STORES!!!! More like INFRAmundo Divertido -- UNDERworld. I.e. HHEELLLLLLLLL....... IT IS nothing AT ALL like the original Mundo Divertido on Paseo de los Heroes in the Zona Rio, a couple blocks up from Baby Rock Disco. At that Mundo they've got a bunch of sweet little rides. Even if the roller coaster is small and short.

So old Mikey has killed Valentine. Sheeeite.

We ended up eating Chinese at a place on the boulevard called Mykasa, which in badly spelled Spanish means "my house" (mi casa = mykasa, get it?). Well, as my stepfather says (yeah, my mom remarried after my first father died -- good guy, too), "they've got fairly good groceries there."

Today on the phone she tried to comfort me. But I feel an idiot. It should have been a perfect night, her and me.

Gotta spend time writing today. Gotta get the screenplay done. Every time I work on it I find more things to change. Less dialogue, more action! Etc.

YESTERDAY I went to the U.S. Consulate to ask for information about working as a cultural tourguide in Tijuana. First, when you go in, you have to be frisked to hell and gone. I had to leave my pocket knife with the taco vendor cart across the street. NO WEAPONS ALLOWED. God only knows I might have attacked the UNITED STATES CONSULATE with my SWISS ARMY KNIFE (gotta watch out for them SWISSIES, they be BAADDDDD). Then I had to take off my belt in order to pass through the metal detector without setting IT OFF!! Damn all those terrorists for making me do this!!! Hee hee hee.

Then, after I finally got inside, I made my request and sat in the waiting room waiting for an hour for someone to come out and talk to me. No one came. After writing several pages of dialogue between Cortes and Moctezuma -- just so you know the time wasn't wasted, I mean, as God is my witness, Scarlet, I'll never be caught without pen and paper again, and I don't -- I got up and left. The guard receptionist refused to take the papers I wanted to leave for the consul. It's just as well. I worked as a bureaucrat for a few years, I know. NOTHING HAPPENS WITH ANYTHING!!!!

Run run run runaround.

Agustín thanked me for the valentine I gave him. For the moment, all is quiet. But....
